The Office for National Statistics state cohabiting couple families are the fastest growing family type in the UK. More children are born in families where parents chose not to marry, but to make a home together. The myth of common law wife/husband still exists and a lot of people believe that will protect their legal position if the relationship comes to an end. Relying on that myth can lead to heartbreak, significant legal costs and homelessness.

Leading West Midlands’ law firm Sydney Mitchell celebrated its 7th successful quiz, raising much needed funds for their nominated charities, the Maria Watt Foundation and the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity. 19 teams took part in an action packed night, taking their chances, and playing their joker cards in a very strategic quiz game.

Righting a shareholders’ wrong
Richard Cooper, Associate Solicitor, Sydney Mitchell and a team of leading barristers and experts have assisted a shareholder in recovering substantial damages following his removal as a director and dilution of his shareholding.
Due to an accounting error the company’s balance sheet and trading had been overstated with a result that a capital contribution from the shareholders was needed.

Specialist support groups help and assist many sufferers and can give an enhanced understanding of the illness that they or their loved one are suffering from. People often still do not want to address their concerns about the future, as if by acknowledging these concerns it might in some way cause the worst to happen.
Employment Armour Legal Protection
Sydney Mitchell has launched a new product which is aimed at corporate and commercial businesses, called “Employment Armour”. This is an employment law annual fixed fee retainer aimed at ensuring that companies are compliant with the ever changing employment law landscape.
